BBWI social event, skin care tips, and…chairs

Hi girls!

We must start by saying a big thank you to everyone who came  to our first meet of the year last Wednesday. I think you’ll all  agree that Issidora certainly scored a big tick – not only was she  the most brilliant and knowledgeable speaker on all things retro  hair and make up – but she was one of the most entertaining  people we’ve ever encountered. And this will be a riddle to those  of you who weren’t lucky enough to hear her facial skin care tips  first hand – but she certainly gave a whole new purpose to  feminine hygiene products. Issidora has kindly given us a fact  sheet to share with you all giving some basic skin care tips – you’ll find it in our treats page here. And if you’re ever in need of a great new look don’t forget to check out Nina’s Hair Parlour in Marylebone.

So we’re all very excited about our new retro beautification skills but we didn’t really get a chance to try them out at our last meet so BBWI Secretary Rowena had the brilliant idea of a BBWI private party hosted at her pub, the Defectors Weld in Shepherd’s Bush, this coming Monday 1 Feb (7.30pm – 9.30pm). It’s going to be an evening of girly hair and make up in our own special area so bring enough money for a couple of drinks and all the hair brushes, rollers and lipsticks you can carry. We’re also going to be making a BBWI patchwork banner to hang at all our meets and at fundraising events so if you come along you can help us construct it. We’re going to bring needles, threads, fabric scraps but any pieces of fabric you have spare would also be appreciated. It will also be a great opportunity to socialise with and get to know your fellow Belles so do come along if you can make it. Rowena has set up a Facebook event here so grateful if you could rsvp so we know how many to expect. For those of you not on Facebook just fire an email to

And – oh look – we’re now on Twitter! Nikki Morton, our new Press and PR officer, set it up for us. But now we need you to populate it and start stalking us.

And last but not least, chairs. We are so sorry we weren’t able to provide chairs for everyone at our last meeting. We simply weren’t expecting over 70 ladies to attend. Rest assured the situation will be rectified for our February meet. And we’ll also do our best not to run out of cake! Watch this space.
