18th April – The Guerrilla Gardener

It seems that spring has well and truly sprung this year so to celebrate, we have the Guerilla Gardener coming along to our April meeting.

Richard started his illicit cultivation around London in 2004 as way of fighting against neglect and the scarcity of public space as a place to grow things, be they beautiful or tasty (or both!)

He is now involved in initiatives like the Chelsea Fringe, encouraging gardeners of all sorts to contribute something to an open-access festival, “one that celebrates the amateur and the rule breaker as well as designers with ideas that don’t fit into the conventions of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.”

Richard will be talking to us about his work and then we’ll be going out onto the streets of Borough to do some Guerilla Gardening ourselves!   If you have one, bring along a trowel.
