Thanks to all our members who turned out for our AGM last week. We had lots to fit in – looking back at what we have done in the last year, formal reports and elections! Luckily, we also had lovely cakes to sustain us and much jubilee cheer. I loved the sailors hats that were made and it was so exciting to finally see a knitted corgi coming to life!
I wanted to take this opportunity as I take over the role of President of the Borough Belles to say a huge thank you to our outgoing President, and one of the founding members, Cathryn. Cathryn has led the WI with great passion and dedication. From flipping welsh cakes on our market stall to coming runner up in the Big Feastival with an amazing ‘Pie and Mash’ cake, Cathryn has always brought huge enthusiasm and dedication to spreading the WI love. Luckily Cathryn will still be coming to WI meetings so we won’t be losing her altogether but I know we will miss having you at the helm!
Also massive thanks to Kathy who has kept us on the straight and narrow financially which is no mean feat and Rowena who steps down as secretary this year. Kathy is staying on the committee which is fantastic and I’m hoping that we can lure Rowena back to meetings in the future.
I am slightly daunted by the task of having such big shoes to fill but am lucky to have a great committee behind me. We had our first committee meeting last night and have exciting plans for a fantastic year ahead. As we said at our AGM, please let us know if there are things you’d like us to change, bear in mind for the future and speaker wishes. It is your WI and the new committee wants to make sure the Borough Belles goes from strength to strength this year.
And Cathryn, do not worry we will make sure there will be always be cake!
